AMARILLO - An Amarillo police officer was the victim of a hit and run Saturday morning. Police say the suspects also caused a hit and run earlier in the day. According to the Amarillo Police Department, a patrol car was headed north on Polk Street just after 9:30 Saturday. The officer was traveling through the intersection at NE 12th Street when a black 1995 Chevrolet Z-71 pickup going west on NE 12th Avenue failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the patrol unit. Police say this caused the unit to leave the roadway and hit a house at 1201 N. Polk. The pickup left the scene going north on Polk Street, and lost the front left tire of the vehicle after about a block. The pickup eventually stopped in the 800 block of NW 24th Avenue, but the occupants ran to a nearby home. APD says a person at the home took them to two different locations in Amarillo.
