LONGVIEW - An East Texas woman was arrested on animal cruelty charges after leaving a dog in a hot car. Longview police officers were dispatched to an animal call in a parking lot in the 500 block of North 4th Street Sunday afternoon. When officers arrived on the scene, witnesses told them a dog that was inside a vehicle was in some kind of distress. Officers determined that the dog had apparently been left in the car for approximately an hour. One of the officers broke the vehicle's window and was able to rescue the dog. According to Longview police, the person responsible for leaving the dog inside the vehicle was identified as 40-year-old, Brandi Lea Matthews of Big Sandy. She was arrested for cruelty to animals and transported to the Gregg County Jail without incident.
