TEXAS - The first official national flag of Texas, christened in December 1836, was blue with a yellow 5-pointed star in the middle. The flag we know today was originally adopted on Jan. 25, 1839, as the second national flag of the Republic of Texas. When Texas became the 28th state of the Union on Dec. 29, 1845, its national flag became the state flag.
The largest Texas flag is allegedly under control of the University of Texas at Austin for use at all home football games. It measures 100 feet in width and 100 feet in length and is used on the field for pre-game “flag runs.”
