DALLAS TEXAS - Katrina Ahrens remembers well the last words she spoke to her husband. “I told him to be good and to have fun,” she said. Katrina, who was also a Dallas police officer, wasn’t concerned about her big, strong husband, Senior Cpl. Lorne Ahrens. She knew he could take care of himself.
“I was absolutely not worried about him at all in the least,” she said from the couple’s home Thursday in Burleson. “Lorne was the most prepared cop that I know. Lorne was aware on a bad day. Neither of them could have envisioned what took place last Thursday.
Ahrens, 48, and three other Dallas officers – Michael Krol, Michael Smith and Patrick Zamarripa -- died in an ambush-style attack in downtown Dallas on July 7. A DART officer was also killed.
