Austin Car Booting Extortion?

I'm sure more than a few Texans have had a 'boot' put on their car tire in the Austin area recently and found that it costs anywhere between $135 - $150 to have it removed. Until today, I was unaware that companies were allowed to charge that much money to simply insert a key into the boot and remove it from the car. The problem is made worse because Austin and most other Texas cities do not have ordinances limiting what these companies can charge consumers. That may soon change.

Businesses, like restaurants who have limited space for parking, utilize these car boot companies to keep people from using their parking spaces while doing business elsewhere. Just down the Interstate from Austin, in San Antonio, there are city regulations that limit to $35 the amount of money which can be charged by a car booting service. That is why many residents and visitors to Austin believe many of these car booting companies are extorting too much money for a simple service. What do you think?

Best Lone Star Barbecue?

There are few things ordinary Texans argue about more than what restaurant serves the best barbeque. Many businesses claim to be the best in the state, but from my point of view they are all good in their own way. Major publications like 'Texas Monthly' put out a list from time to time of what they consider the best barbeque restaurants in Texas. However, most folks have never eaten at any of them. From my experience, the best barbeque restaurants tend to be sort of small 'do drop in' kind of places where the owner not only rings up your food, but serves it as well.

The top five barbeque restaurants on the Texas Monthly list are: Franklin Barbecue - Austin, Pecan Lodge - Dallas, Snow's BBQ - Lexington, Louie Mueller Barbecue - Taylor and Tyler's Barbeque - Amarillo. From my personal point of view and considering I live in the Waco area, my top three barbeque restaurants in Texas are: Uncle Dan's, Vtech and Michna's . All three of these are located in the Waco area. Feel free to comment with the name and address of your favorite Texas barbeque restaurant. I'm sure they are all fantastic!
