It is almost 1000-miles from the eastern boarder of Texas to El Paso and a little bit further from Brownsville to Texline. Who Needs To Gain Some Weight?

As the second week of 2016 gets underway, televisions around Texas are filled with commercials promising to show millions of folks how to lose weight in the New Year. While most of us do need to shed a few pounds, there are Texans who need to gain some weight as well. I know and I have said it before myself, 'what a nice problem to have, right?' Unfortunately, for folks who are underweight, gaining those needed few pounds is not as easy as it might sound.

Who has not known a friend, family member or coworker who sits around all day eating every unhealthy food on the planet but never gains any weight? While most of us get larger by just walking past a candy machine. Ever sit in the lunchroom at work eating a healthy salad and watch some skinny person consume a double meat burger with a large fries and coke, day after day, but they never gain weight? I know it doesn't seem fair, but that's just the way it goes. I think it's time for a bedtime snack. lol

Eagle Scout Commits Suicide

While the Internet and other forms of social media have made the lives of many Texans happier and more fulling, there are a small group of punks who use these tools to bully kids worse than ever before. On Monday, a young man by the name of David Molak committed suicide by hanging himself in the backyard of his home in San Antonio. He was only 16-years-old. According to his brother, David had been the victim of bullying via social media for quite some time.

Night Falls Fast: Understanding Suicide

David was a big fan of the San Antonio Spurs, loved fitness training and was an Eagle Scout. I'm not sure what the answer is to online bullying, but something needs to be done. The truth is bullies have been around since the beginning of time and the only way to stop their terrible behavior is to stand up to them and fight back. Sadly, the world is so filled with political correctness right now that some victims who try to stand up to bullies sometimes find themselves in trouble with schools and other organizations. Please pray for David's family and all the others who lost children to suicide because of bullying.

World's Largest Jackrabbit In Odessa

I have lived in Texas all my life (50+years) and until recently I had never heard about the 'World's Largest Jackrabbit' display in Odessa. Isn't living in Texas neat? What other state can a person live all their life and not know about something like this? Rumor has it that this huge jackrabbit was created as a tribute to an old annual tradition in Odessa called 'jackrabbit roping'. That competition was closed for good back in the late 1970's when the Humane Society got involved.

Jackrabbit

The rabbit's name is Jack Ben Rabbit and hundreds of people visit this display every year. Some even stand beside Jack Ben and have their picture taken with him. This interesting Texas attraction is located in the downtown section of Odessa, Texas in front of the Ector County Independent School District building. Wow, what an interesting place to put such a thing. You might want to check this out the next time you're in Odessa. Looks pretty cool to me.

Mysteries of the Marfa Lights Revealed - Black/White Edition: A Guide to the History, Mystery, Science, and Viewing of the Marfa Lights
