Cody Owens Confirmed Dead After Panhandle Train Crash


PANHANDLE - According to his brother-in-law, Cody Owens performed his job with BNSF Railway daily with the best attitude possible. Mark Moore said authorities notified his family yesterday of Owens' passing, one of the confirmed fatalities in Tuesday's fiery collision near Panhandle. Despite Owens' death, Moore said he wants to Cody's memory alive: A fun and caring man who always put others before himself. "Cody was a good guy," says Moore. "If I looked up to anyone in the world, it would probably be him because he was just a great role model, period."

MIDLAND - Midland police are asking for the public's help in finding 23-year-old Jezzelle Monique Pena. She was last seen Friday, June 24 around noon heading to the post office. Pena is 5'3", 160 lbs., with brown eyes and brown hair. She was last seen wearing spandex leggings, a black spaghetti strap top and black Converse shoes. Pena has a squirrel and butterfly tattoo on her right shoulder.

Man Claims Chick-Fil-A Helped Him Lose Weight


TEXAS A&M - When Denver, Colorado, resident Alton Ward was at Texas A&M University four years ago, he said he weighed 355 pounds despite trying diets such as Jenny Craig, Atkins, juice diets and every other thing, Valdosta Today reported. "All my life I knew I was big and I always wanted to lose weight," Ward told Business Insider. Ward had been eating at Chick-fil-A since he was child. He knew it had healthy portions, so it was a good place to start. Texas A&M had one on campus and Ward would have several meals a week there.

Fort Worth Police Captain Humphries Arrested After DWI Crash


HURST - A Fort Worth police captain is in custody for suspected drunk driving after being involved in a crash in Hurst. Hurst police say Captain Daniel Humphries was off-duty and driving a black Tahoe when he was involved in a crash with a sedan at about 2 a.m Wednesday in the eastbound lanes of the TexExpress along State Highway 121. Police say Humphries was entering the road from the shoulder when the crash took place. Humphries was arrested for intoxication assault and taken to the Euless City Jail. His bond has not been set.

Big Rig Crash Kills 3-People Near Royse City Texas


ROYSE CITY - Authorities said three people are dead after a three-vehicle crash involving two 18-wheelers in Royse City Wednesday. Royse City Fire Department spokesman Richard L. Bell said the car and two 18-wheelers crashed on Interstate 30 just before 7 a.m.

Former Sheriff's Deputy Grubbs Charged With Manslaughter In Van Zandt County


CANTON - A former Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Deputy has been charged with manslaughter, stemming from a February wreck. Emily Ann Grubbs, 28, was charged with manslaughter on June 24. She was released from the Van Zandt County Justice Center after posting bail on a $5,000 bond, according information on the Van Zandt County District Justice Center website. Grubbs struck Mary Lena  Pettiet, a nurse, while driving through an intersection in Canton on February 15. After months on life support Pettiet, 33, passed away at a Tyler hospital on May 5.

Man Arrested In Houston For Running Through Backyards Naked


HOUSTON - Houston police have arrested a man accused of running through backyards naked. Officers responded to calls of a naked man jumping fences along Rosebriar  Drive and Bazelbriar Lane around midnight Wednesday. One homeowner told officers he went outside to confront the man with his gun. Police said that homeowner shot at the man, who then ran into the front yard and into the street.

CARROLLTON - Police said a fatal crash has shut down the President George Bush Turnpike in Carrollton Wednesday morning. Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Lonny Haschel said troopers responded to the crash in the southbound lanes of the PGBT near the Belt Line overpass at 3:26 a.m.

West Texas Sinkholes Near Wink & Kermit Getting Bigger


WINK - The earth is crumbling in West Texas. Scientists from Southern Methodist University have new research that shows two massive sinkholes between the towns of Wink and Kermit are expanding. Years of drilling for oil and gas have helped wash away salt beds underneath the ground. A shifting water table has made the problem worse and in some places the ground is sinking five inches a year, according to the satellite readings.

PANHANDLE - Authorities in the Texas town of Panhandle are working through the night in search of 3-people who are still missing after two freight trains crashed head-on into each other on Tuesday. According to police reports, dozens of people were evacuated after this crash as a massive amount of burning wreckage could be seen for miles before fire departments from several cities were able to extinguish the flames.
