Man Consumes 757th Whataburger In Quest To Eat At Every Location


BROWNSVILLE TEXAS - Meet Whataburger’s biggest fan, Karl Hoepfner, 79, of Rockport, who visited Brownsville this week on his quest to visit every store in the burger chain. His lunch stop Tuesday at 6100 Ruben M. Torres Blvd. marked the retiree’s 757th Whataburger and continued a pursuit that he and his wife began together in 2012, when the couple decided to visit every single Whataburger.

Police Dog Mojo, Overheated, Collapsed, & Died


ARLINGTON TEXAS - An Arlington Police Department K-9 died after he collapsed during a search for a suspect Tuesday morning. Detectives were tracking a fugitive, 17-year-old Sune Deon Arnold Jr.,  wanted in conjunction with a June 12 shooting of another man. When officers tried to pull him over around 8 a.m., Arnold refused and sped away. After an hour-long search for Arnold, K-9 Officer Mojo appeared to be overheating and collapsed. He was rushed to an animal hospital where he later died around 2:30 p.m. Arnold was later arrested around 4:30 p.m. after a 911 caller reported seeing him in the area.

Teacher Of The Year Accused Of Sexual Abuse Of Third Grader


WEBSTER TEXAS - A former Teacher of the Year at a Clear Creek ISD elementary school is accused of sexual abuse. The alleged victim was a third grader and allegations are coming to light years after the alleged crime. According to court documents, the alleged abuse happened inside a classroom at McWhirter Elementary seven years ago. The victim says it happened several times while Oscar I. Perez tutored her after school. He is charged with Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child. Court documents show he emailed her parents requesting that she stay after school two days a week for tutoring so she could pass the STAAR test.

Dad & Daughter Died After Being Swept Out To Sea


MAKAPUU HAWAII - A California man who was an experienced surfer and his daughter died after being swept out to sea from tide pools in Hawaii on Saturday. Officials identified the pair as 46-year-old Mark Hornor and 6-year-old Mina Hornor. Both were from Berkeley, California. Emergency crews responded Saturday to reports that the girl fell into the ocean while walking along the rocky shoreline. Officials said her father jumped in to save her before he also was swept away by the waves. Lifeguards found both victims unresponsive and brought them back to shore. They both were taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died.

Amarillo Walmart Evacuated After Bomb Threat


AMARILLO TEXAS - As of about 12:10 p.m., the situation at Walmart @ I-27 and South Georga is over. Employees and customers are being allowed back into the store. Amarillo police said a search of the store did not lead to any suspicious item. Amarillo police could not provide much information, however, they did say that when an evacuation at a store happens, it is completely up to the manager on duty to make that call. Day cares in the area have been placed on lock-down.

Motorcyclist Who Struck & Killed 4-Year-Old Boy Arrested


GALVESTON TEXAS - Authorities say a motorcyclist has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after fatally striking a 4-year-old boy playing on the side of the road in Southeast Texas. Capt. Mike Benevides of the Galveston County sheriff's office says witnesses told investigators the boy was playing with a toy truck when he was struck Sunday evening in the Bacliff community, located northwest of Galveston. Benavides says 37-year-old Justin James Forsyth is accused of driving on the wrong side of the road when he struck the child. Adults were supervising the child at the time.

Suspect In Prison Guard Murder Is 21-Year-Old Inmate


ABILENE TEXAS - Authorities say the 21-year-old male inmate identified as the "alleged assailant" in the killing of a female corrections officer at Texas prison over the weekend evidently attacked the woman as she entered a storage area near the kitchen. Mari Johnson, 55, was found unresponsive at around 3 a.m. Saturday near the kitchen area of the Robertson Unit. Life-saving measures were initiated and Johnson then was taken to Hendricks Medical Center in Abilene where she was pronounced dead, Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark aid.

2016 Arlington Graduate Rebecca Read Died In Accident


ARLINGTON TEXAS - A 2016 Arlington High School graduate died in a crash in Fairfield Monday. Rebecca Read and three friends, all graduates of Arlington High, were headed south on I-45 around 9:45 a.m. when the DPS says their Jeep drifted off the highway. The driver over-corrected to the right and the Jeep rolled across both lanes of the roadway coming to rest upright. The choir hall at Arlington High School will be open Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to noon with counselors available for students or faculty who want to stop by.

Multiple Gunshots Fired At Stanton Police Officer


STANTON TEXAS - At approximately 1:26AM, 07/17/16, an Officer with the Stanton Police Department was dispatched to a Recreational Vehicle trailer, located within the Convent RV Park, in reference to a Fight in Progress. Upon arrival, the Officer attempted to make contact with the resident of the RV by knocking on the door of the RV, which was answered by a threat towards the Officer, through the door, and an immediate gunshot. The Officer did not return fire, as he was unaware if anyone besides the suspect occupied the RV. As the Officer was seeking cover, another shot rang out from the RV in the direction of the Officer.
