One man died in deadly crash in El Paso’s lower valley Saturday night, police say.
The El Paso Police Department said the Special Traffic Investigations Unit was called out to a crash at the intersection of Gateway Boulevard East at Giles Road at 9:44 p.m.
Investigators said the driver of a 2009 Dodge Ram was traveling east on Gateway Boulevard in the mandatory left turn lane approaching Giles Road.
Investigators said a 2008 Honda Accord, driven Maria Echavrria, 66, was in the middle lane making a left turn northbound onto Giles Road.
That’s when authorities said the driver of the Ram failed to make the mandatory left turn and struck the Accord.
Police said the Ram then crashed into a signal light pole and caught fire.
Authorities said passers-by pulled the driver from the burning vehicle, but he died at the scene.
