Walmart Opens First Convenience Store In Texas

In a parking lot on Main Street in this nondescript town of 14,000, Crowley, Texas - Wal-Mart is testing out what it hopes could be its next small thing — a genuine convenience store.

Texas Sized Barbeque Grills

It's one of two convenience stores Wal-Mart opened last month. The other is in Rogers, Ark., near Wal-Mart's Bentonville headquarters. Both stores are in the parking lots of Wal-Mart Supercenters. Wal-Mart continues to test small store formats even though it abandoned its 12,000-square-foot Wal-Mart Express stores last year.

The new Walmart Supercenter in Hewitt Texas opened on January 25 and it has a Walmart Convenience store in the parking lot. Interestingly they have already had to dig up one of the gas tanks.

This is incorrect information. Last year they opened a new Neighborhood Walmart in Hurst, TX and it has a convenience store in the parking lot as described in the news story.

This is not the gas station with the store. This is a separate convenience store that isn't stationed with an actual Wal-Mart store, so technically it is the first.
