A Mount Pleasant High School girls track team coach, Angelica Beard, has been confirmed as one of the fatalities in a bus crash that occurred at 10:30 this evening south of Talco. Beard, a first year coach for the team, was in a car following the bus.
The driver of the bus is in surgery in a Tyler hospital in critical condition, though no name has been released.
The track team bus was involved in a serious accident with a big rig and another vehicle earlier tonight on Hwy. 271, south of Talco. According to police sources, there were multiple injuries as well as at least two fatalities, though no fatalities are believed to be students. There are several helicopters on the scene as well as many police and EMS agencies responding.
According to Mount Pleasant Superintendent of School, Judd Marshall, both the boys and girls track team had a meet in Paris today, and they were on two different buses. The boys bus was miles in front of the girls bus and as it was going through Talco around 10:30 tonight, a big rig coming from the opposite direction swerved into the lane, swiping the driver's side of the bus, causing it to spin out of control.
There are at least six seriously injured passengers, including the boys coach who was the driver of the bus, that have been Careflighted to Tyler. The rest of the passengers are being treated locally at Titus County Regional Medical Center then being released to their parents. Source: TRIBNOW
