Officials have identified the four Central Texans killed when a freight train slammed into their tour bus in Biloxi, Mississippi on Tuesday.
According to Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove, Peggy Hoffman, 73, and Kenneth Hoffman, 82, of Lockhart died on scene. Clinton Havran, 79, of Sealy also died at the scene. Deborah Orr, 62, of Bastrop died at Merit Health
Biloxi at around 6 p.m. after undergoing surgery.
Kenneth and Peggy Hoffman were Lockhart Lions to the core.
"I sat next to them at home football games," said Susan Bohn, Lockhart ISD Superintendent.
Bohn said together the pair had a combined 85 years in service to the school district. Kenneth Hoffman retired in 1996 after serving as assistant superintendent. Peggy Hoffman was the principal at Plum Creek Elementary and retired in 2002.
"If you weren't taught by Peggy, or if you didn't work with them, or if they weren't in a position of leadership in the district when you worked here ... then your kids were taught by them or your grandkids were," said Bohn.
"The Hoffmans were true pillars of the community here in Lockhart," added Christina Courson, public information officer for Lockhart ISD.
In their small community, the Hoffmans' loss is no small thing.
