A major wildfire that started Thursday afternoon in Roberts County has burned an estimated 60,000 acres.
The fire started around 2:20 p.m., about 10 miles outside of Miami in Roberts County, and quickly spread to Ochiltree County, according to officials. The Ochiltree County Sheriff's Office ordered evacuations in the southeastern parts of the county.
Friday morning, the Texas A&M Forest Service was reporting the fire was 10 percent contained.
Due to the blaze and smoke, Ranch Road 283 and Highway 70 were closed for most of Thursday afternoon and evening. Both highways reopened around 11:20 p.m. on Thursday.
The Texas A&M Forest Service reported Thursday night that the fire was "receiving beneficial rainfall" and the fire behavior had dropped to smoldering. Source: KVII
