Federal, state and local officials gathered at the Anderson Campus Center at Central Texas College Saturday morning for the unveiling of the first I-14 sign.
The 25-mile stretch of U.S. 190 between I-35 and Copperas Cove was designated the first part of I-14.
Interstate 14 will eventually reach from El Paso to Savannah, GA.
The interstate is expected to bring more travelers through the area which will help local economies grow.
I-14 also helps with national security as it will provide Fort Hood easier access to ports to ship soldiers and equipment out for deployments.
