A manhunt is underway in Lubbock after a suspect assaulted three police officers. According to the Lubbock Police Department, Carlos Martinez, 32, is wanted for three counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer.
Authorities warn Martinez is considered armed and dangerous.
The incident began around 12:40 p.m. Thursday, when officers responded to a dispute at the Del Estrado Townhomes located near 62nd Street and Geneva Avenue. When officers arrived to the scene, they checked Martinez for warrants, and discovered he had two outstanding warrants. Martinez was sitting in an SUV at the time. The officer asked him to exit the vehicle, Martinez refused and put the vehicle in reverse.
According to police, the officer was run over by the door of the SUV, while another officer quickly grabbed a child, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, pulling him to safety. That officer along with a third officer were injured as the SUV continued traveling in reverse until hitting an LPD patrol Tahoe. As Martinez fled the scene, officers fired shots at the vehicle.
Officers Donovan Powell, Mark Ellison, and Saul Garay were taken to University Medical Center to be treated and have since been released.
Police later found the suspect's abandoned SUV, but have yet to locate Martinez.
LPD is asking for the public’s help in locating Martinez. They caution that anyone who comes in contact with this individual should call 911. Also, anyone with information on his possible whereabouts is asked to call Crime Line at (806)741-1000.
