Twila & William Mooney Died In Waco Murder-Suicide

The two individuals who were found are dead after what police believe to be a murder-suicide situation at Lake Waco have been identified.

Police identified the individuals as 47-year-olds Twila and William Mooney.

The families have been made aware of their deaths.

According to witnesses who knew the victims, the pair were only married a short period of time. Residents in the area said they heard gunshots at some point last night, but thought nothing of them.

A co-worker discovered the bodies of a man and woman inside of a houseboat after they did not show up for work, according to police.

At 1 p.m. Friday, Waco Police responded to the scene at Speegleville Marina.

"They hadn't been to work today," Swanton said. "They were missing, so (the coworker) came to check on one or both of them. When he got to the houseboat, he found both of them deceased inside the houseboat."

Police said they believe it was a murder-suicide.

Waco PD Sgt. Patrick Swanton said the deceased appeared to have died via gunshot wounds.

Details as to who shot who are unclear at this time, according to police.

Murder-Suicide Friday On Lake Waco Houseboat

"It appears the two died of gunshot wounds," Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said late Friday afternoon.

"A preliminary investigation leads us to believe this is a murder-suicide," Swanton said.

A handgun was recovered, Swanton said.

The couple was last seen Thursday evening.

The shooting likely happened overnight, Swanton said.

"We think that perhaps the two came here something occurred between them, obviously something very tragic, and at this point we'll try to determine exactly who it was that shot who," said Swanton.

"Unfortunately in these kind of circumstances, the witnesses in this case are both deceased, so we may never know what happened."

Police have identified the two, who Swanton said were man and wife, but the names won't be released until Saturday out of respect for the family.

Next of kin was notified.

Coffee Recalled Because Of Viagra Type Ingredient

Coffee from a North Texas company is being recalled for containing an ingredient similar to Viagra, the FDA says.

Bestherbs Coffee LLC, in Grand Prairie, voluntarily recalled all of its "New of Kopi Jantan Tradisional Herbs Coffee" after an FDA lab analysis detected desmethyl carbodenafil.

The drug is structurally similar to sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, according to the FDA notice.

Desmethyl carbodenafil may react with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, lowering blood pressure to dangerous levels, the recall said. The drug poses a risk to men with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease.

The instant coffee packs also include milk, which is a potential allergen not included on the labels.

The coffee was sold nationwide online. Each box sold comes with 25, 13-gram packs of coffee.

People who've bought the coffee can return it to the Bestherbs office for a full refund. The address is listed below:

Pastor Richard "Dick" Lord Died From West Nile Virus

The first victim of West Nile virus in Tarrant County this year was a retired Arlington pastor who was active and "full of life," his family said Tuesday.

"He was so full of life in every way and he went through 12 days of hell to be able to leave us," she said.

He ended up going to the emergency room at Arlington Memorial Hospital. But at first, doctors weren't sure what was wrong.

"I'm thinking these are great doctors, and they are going to figure it out and get him fixed," Janice Lord said. "I never thought about it being that (West Nile virus) or killing him."

Then, as his condition worsened, doctors discovered he had West Nile, the virus passed on by mosquitoes.

Jeri Quezada, Guilty To Causing Injury To Her Child

A Texas mother has pleaded guilty to causing injury to her child who died from abuse.

Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson announced Jeri Quezada's plea Wednesday.

The case against the 31-year-old stems from the death of her 4-year-old daughter Leiliana Wright in March 2016. Leiliana was found beaten to death after Child Protective Services workers failed to check in on her multiple times.

Quezada also has a history of drug abuse and previous encounters with CPS.

Leiliana's death is one example of Texas child abuse investigators struggling to check on children in a timely manner because of the huge workload and high staff turnover.

CPS fired two employees and a third resigned in April 2016 after the agency was accused of failing to prevent Leiliana's death.

Dog, Daisy Mae, Had Leg Amputated On Tuesday

Daisy, the dog that was found alive in the woods after she went missing following a serious car crash, had to have her left leg amputated on Tuesday, according to Mutts and Mayhem Animal Rescue.

The 11-month-old lab mix disappeared from the accident scene near the President George W. Bush Turnpike and Highway 75 last week. Her owners, Trenton Ray and Erica Cruz, were rear ended by an 18-wheeler and knocked unconscious.

They survived. The dog was found Sunday.

“There was extensive trauma to the musculature surrounding Daisy’s femur and pelvis. Amputation was definitely the way to go once I got in there.

There was no way that any of her bones were going to be able to be put back together. It was a very extensive surgery but Daisy did great.

She is awake but on a lot of pain medications,” said Dr. Sable Murry of the Summertree Animal & Bird Clinic.

A 17-year-old woman whose body was found floating in a park lake Sunday has been identified as the stepdaughter of a Texas doctor who is currently facing charges of distributing a controlled substance.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as Mikayla Mitchell, whose home address is the same as 56-year-old Dr. Howard Gregg Diamond.

Diamond is accused of writing unnecessary prescriptions for powerful drugs that contributed to the overdose deaths of at least seven people over a four-year period. Diamond was arrested July 11 and is facing charges that include conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

While the medical examiner has not confirmed the woman's cause of death, police initially said she died from homicidal violence.

Brandon Gordy Charged With Capital Murder Of 4-Year-Old Child

A father who was under investigation by Child Protective Services for family violence has now been charged with killing his common-law wife's 4-year-old son.

Brandon Gordy, 27, is charged with capital murder in the July 14 death of Darwin Delgado.

According to his arrest warrant, child abuse unit detectives were called to Medical City Dallas Hospital after the child was found unresponsive and brought into the hospital. He died about an hour after he arrived.

Detectives at the hospital interviewed the boy's mother, Rosa Angon-Diaz, and Gordy, who was the only adult at home watching Darwin and his siblings when the incident occurred.

While speaking with detectives, Angon-Diaz told them that Gordy was watching the kids in their apartment at 8908 Park Lane while she was at work.

She also revealed that Gordy had been abusive with her the day before, grabbing her by the neck and throwing her up against a wall. She had visible bruises, the warrant states.

Angon-Diaz also told police that Gordy "has a quick temper" and that her son Darwin and his brother were afraid of him. Child Protective Services was already investigating Gordy for physical abuse against Angon-Diaz's other young son, the warrant says.

Where Is Tropical Storm Don Headed?

Tropical Storm Don has formed in the Atlantic Ocean, the National Weather Service announced.

Another tropical wave in the Atlantic has the potential to develop into a tropical depression or storm this week.

Meteorologist Travis Herzog says neither appears to be a threat to us here in the Gulf for now, but we'll keep a close eye on them just in case. You can watch Travis's video update for a more in-depth analysis.

Four named storms have formed so far this hurricane season, which doesn't normally occur until August 13th! Research has shown that storms forming east of the Caribbean before August signal high hurricane activity when the meat of the hurricane season arrives from August to October.

1 Killed - 2 Hurt In Major I-35 Crash In Dallas

Authorities say one person has been killed and at least two people have been hurt in the crash.

From Chopper 11, several cars and at least two semi-trucks appeared to be involved in the wreck. One white pick-up truck could be seen on its side.

A black pick-up truck also appeared to have spun around and slid off the road after impact with other vehicles.

Much of the focus of rescue workers appeared to be near where one of the semi-trucks was on its side. The cab of that truck appeared to have been crushed and had the back end of another semi-trailer partially resting on top of the damaged cab that was laying on its side. That area was roped-off by yellow caution tape.

Tow trucks were beginning to remove vehicles from the scene as Chopper 11 departed at about 12:10 Monday afternoon.

Army Veteran Fired For Pursuing Shoplifters

A 70-year-old Army veteran has been fired from a Houston-area Home Depot after trying to stop suspected shoplifters from taking thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise.
KTRK-TV in Houston reports that Jim Tinney says he was fired last month from the store in Pearland.

Tinney says he was trained to not confront shoplifters and knows he violated company policy, but that his military training just kicked in when he noticed three men attempting to steal tools. He threw a paint roller extension pole toward the suspects' feet. The men escaped.

The Home Depot said in a statement that only trained company security personnel can pursue and engage shoplifters, citing the safety of customers and associates.
A Pearland Police Department spokesman says he has no information on the shoplifting case.

Dying Army Veteran Asking For Texts & Phone Calls

An Army veteran with a terminal illness has a final wish that we can all help with.

It doesn't require much effort on our part but would make a world of difference to a man who served his country.

He wants us, you, to send him text messages or give him a call.

Lee Hernandez, who is under hospice care at his home in New Braunfels, Texas, has continuous strokes that have affected his vision and cognitive abilities. The 47-year-old’s body is deteriorating despite three brain surgeries, according to his wife, Ernestine Hernandez.

Doctors have not been able to pinpoint a cause for Lee’s illness and said there is nothing more they can do but make him comfortable.

Despite the circumstances, Ernestine discovered a simple but meaningful way to brighten Lee’s day: phone calls and text messages from others.

The request came after Lee asked his wife to hold onto his phone one day “in case someone calls.” After nearly two hours with no calls, Lee told his wife, “I guess no one wants to talk to me.”

Lee was wrong.

“It broke my heart,” said Ernestine. “(Lee’s) speech is not very well, so many people didn’t take much interest or want to talk to him.”

She reached out to “Caregivers of Wounded Warriors” to spread Lee’s request. “They are an excellent support group of wives and ladies who know the struggles of what we go through," Ernestine said.

Lee is an 18½-year Army veteran who served a tour in Iraq.

People who want to call or text Lee should reach out in the evening hours, ideally between 4 and 8 p.m Texas time. Ernestine said that is when Lee is alert despite heavy pain medication.

According to KENS5-TV, the phone number to reach the Hernandezes is 210-632-6778.

Ernestine adds that if they don’t answer the phone every time, it’s not that they don’t care, but some days Lee is in an incredible amount of pain.

Officer Crawls Under Moving Train After SUV Crash

The La Marque Police Department officer credited with helping halt a moving train that was dragging an SUV with injured victims is speaking about the incident for the first time since it happened.

Officer Andrew Best and a police trainee responded to an emergency call early Friday morning that a car crashed into the side of a stationary train at a railroad crossing.

When Officer Best and the trainee arrived at the crossing located near the intersection of Highway 3 and FM 519 shortly after 2:30 a.m., they realized the vehicle with a man and a woman had crashed into the train on the other side of the tracks.

Officer Best’s police body camera captured it all.

“The medic’s en route,” Officer Best shouts. “I think somebody’s trapped.”

The policeman drops to the ground and crawls beneath the train to access the Dodge SUV and begins speaking with the injured man inside the vehicle.

“You’ve been in a wreck,” Officer Best says.

The officer tells his trainee to pass him the glass breaker so he can knock out the windows to the vehicle, and soon after he breaks one out, the train unexpectedly begins to move.

“Pretty surreal. Did not expect that to happen,” Officer Best told KHOU 11 News. “That was a shock. From then on, I’m worried about those two people in the vehicle, the hazmat placards I’m seeing on the trains, and are we going to have an exposure incident now. About a hundred things are going through my mind at that time.”

The policeman is unquestionably surprised when the train begins to move, as is clear from his reaction caught in the body-cam video.

Standoff In Slaton TX After 150 Mile Police Chase

A man is currently surrounded by police after he led them on a high-speed pursuit from Scurry County, near Abilene, all the way to Slaton.

The pursuit started at approximately 8:57 p.m., officers followed the man all through Garza and Scurry until it made a stop in Slaton, presumably because the man ran out of gas.

Officers were one scene and reported the man had a revolver in his hand while still inside of the vehicle.

"We did determine that the pickup is stolen, and there's one occupant," Witt said. "And we do believe at this time that occupant is armed, so parts of U.S. 84 have been diverted."

Sword Carrying Will Be Legal Soon In Texas

Texas residents who've dreamed of walking around sporting their favorite sword will have their wish granted starting this fall.

According to KZTV10, as of September 1, state knife laws are changing, replacing previous rules that limited blade length to 5.5 inches and prohibited specialty blades such as double-edged knives.

Under the new law, however, swords, daggers, double-sided blades, sabers, bowie knives, machetes and more will be legal to carry in most areas of the state.

There are some exceptions, though. The new laws won't apply in certain areas such as schools, prisons, hospitals, amusement parks, places of worship and sporting events. Bars will also be prohibited areas.

Police say 42-year-old Robert Rincon Jr. and 33-year-old Isabel Rincon turned themselves in Thursday. Both remained in jail Friday on bond of $200,000 each on charges of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury. Jail records don't list attorneys for either.

A probable cause affidavit says the boy's condition was reported to police June 1 after his mother took him to a hospital because of a bruise on his ear. The affidavit says he weighed 17 pounds and had bed sores and bruising.

Police tell the Odessa American that Child Protective Services took custody of the boy, who has been released from the hospital.

Knocked On Cockpit Door Twice Demanding Alcohol

A flight headed to Los Angeles returned back to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport after a woman demanded alcohol and approached the pilot's cockpit twice, according to a DFW police report.

According WFAA-TV, Suzette Gordon already appeared intoxicated when she boarded the plane Thursday night and ordered an alcoholic beverage from a flight attendant as the plane was about to depart.

The report alleges that Gordon got up from her seat and knocked on the cockpit door after the attendant refused to serve her a drink. As Gordon returned to her seat, she struck her head on the overhead cabin and continued to demand a flight attendant "give her a drink, yelling and being unruly."

She then allegedly approached the cockpit a second time, which was when the plane returned back to the airport.

Asbestos Found In Makeup Sold At Justice Stores

What could possibly be worse than finding out the makeup you use contains asbestos? Finding out the makeup your child uses contains asbestos.

The news team at WTVD, an ABC station in Durham, North Carolina, is reporting that its recent investigation into the ingredients of cosmetics aimed at tweens has revealed frightening results about a product sold at Justice, a national retail chain selling girls' apparel. According to the Scientific Analytical Institute in Greensboro, Just Shine Shimmer Powder tested positive for dangerous asbestos.

"In this powder designed for children, they could die an untimely death in their 30s or 40s because of the exposure to asbestos in this product," Sean Fitzgerald, the lab's Director of Research and Analytical Services, told WTVD.

Specifically, the lab found tremolite asbestos fibers, which contaminated the talc used in the Just Shine Shimmer Powder. Fitzgerald says the mineral reserve from which the talc was derived should have been tested for contamination; if it had been tested, it never would have been used by the manufacturer because the FDA prohibits asbestos-contaminated talc in cosmetics.

"Fibers like this get into your breathing zone, and when you inhale, these fibers can get into the lung and go to the very bottom of the lung, and that is exactly where you have the greatest likelihood of asbestos to cause disease," Fitzgerald said. "Children should not be allowed to breathe it. If a 10-year-old inhaled this fiber today, when he's 50 years old, it's still there." According to the National Cancer Institute, it can take at least 20 years for malignant mesothelioma to form after asbestos exposure.

Beware Of Blue Whale Challenge Suicide Game

The family of a Texas teen who hanged himself says their son was involved in a ghoulish online game that calls on participants to complete a series of tasks before taking their own lives, and some schools are warning parents about the so-called Blue Whale Challenge.

Jorge Gonzalez told San Antonio television station WOAI (http://bit.ly/2ufDDhG ) that he wanted to caution others after his son, Isaiah, was found hanging in his bedroom closet Saturday in the family's home with his cellphone propped up on a shoe to record his death.

A report on the boy's death from the San Antonio Police Department does not mention the challenge. But Gonzalez' family said in the days after the teen died, they pieced together from his social media and communication with friends that he had participated in the game.

His sister, Alexis, told the TV station that a person behind the challenge had gathered personal information from Isaiah and had threatened to harm the family.

The police department did not return a message left by The Associated Press asking whether authorities were investigating the game as a factor in the case. Many parents and other authorities are skeptical that the game actually exists, citing a lack of suicides directly attributed to it.
