Sentenced To 30-Years For 11th DWI Conviction

A South Texas man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for what prosecutors say was his 11th drunken driving conviction.

Jurors in San Antonio convicted 57-year-old San Juan Garcia of felony DWI in a January 2014 traffic accident.

A statement from the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office says Garcia was driving drunk when his vehicle struck a motorcyclist. Toxicology tests indicated Garcia had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit for driving in Texas.

Records show Garcia’s first DWI arrest was in March 1982 and that he served time in prison for several of his later convictions. He was sentenced last week as a habitual offender.

Dylan Spaid Killed In Arlington Road Rage Murder

Arlington police continue to search for the driver who killed a 19-year-old man from Grand Prairie in a fit of rage over the weekend.

Police say Dylan Spaid was driving with his girlfriend on I-20 around 6 p.m. Sunday. Investigators think something that happened on the interstate led to a road rage murder.

At least one gunshot was fired at Dylan. The girlfriend tried to take control of the pickup but ended up crashing into a sign near Matlock Road in South Arlington.

"The only thing I've heard is they were coming off of Cooper and I guess him and that other car got into an argument, shot him and my son died,” said Shawn Spaid, Dylan’s father.

"She was very traumatized. She didn't know what had occurred,” said Arlington Police Lt. Chris Cook. “She knew there was a road rage incident, but she didn't know what happened at that point."

Police say the shooter kept driving. The person's vehicle is described as a dark-colored four-door sedan, perhaps a BMW or Mercedes, with tinted windows, silver rims and aftermarket tires.

The Body Of Kaytlynn Cargill (14) Found In Landfill

Authorities have confirmed the body found in an Arlington landfill Wednesday afternoon is that of a missing Bedford teen. Police are now trying to retrace her steps.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed 14-year-old Kaytlynn Cargill’s body was found in the Republic Service Arlington Landfill Wednesday. A landfill employee discovered her body.

The news was not only hard for Kaytlynn's family but her friends and classmates as well. They held a vigil for the girl at Central Junior High in Euless. Friends and their parents gathered to sing songs, say prayers and share memories of Kaytlynn.

It was a day that left many struggling to make sense of the girl's death. Macayla Moore, Kaytlynn’s former stepsister, says when she saw she was missing earlier this week she knew something was wrong.

"She'd always go home to her mom and tell her, ‘Hey, I'm going to this person's house,’” Moore explained. “Her mom and her had that great kind of relationship."

Bedford police confirmed Kaytlynn's body was found in the landfill. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner has not ruled on the cause of death.

Facebook Messaging When Child Drowned In Bathtub

Sheriff's deputies in the Dallas-Fort Worth area say a mother charged in the drowning of her infant daughter had been distracted by Facebook when she left the girl unattended in a bathtub.

In a news release, investigators said Cheyenne Summer Stuckey, 21, originally told deputies she had left her 6-month-old child alone in the bathtub "for only a couple minutes" inside her Reno, Texas, home on June 13.

The mother later returned to find her daughter, Zayla, unresponsive and floating face-down in the bathtub.

Stuckey told police she was uncertain whether she had placed a bathtub stopper in the drain. Investigators later found Stuckey had been on Facebook Messenger for at least 18 minutes while her child was in the tub, authorities said.

During her interview with police, Stuckey said she had implicated herself in the negligence of her daughter's death by saying she left the infant unsupervised and became "distracted" by another child, Facebook messenger and a loud TV.

Deputies said the mother tried to save her daughter, but "did not know how."

Tropical Storm Cindy Landfall Likely Sabine Pass

Today will be breezy and mostly dry thru much of the afternoon for the majority of southeast Texas. Temps will climb to near 90 as the north wind gusts up to 30 mph inland and up to 40 mph along the coast. Tropical Storm wind conditions can be expected to spread inland this evening.

Tonight is when the rains could get especially heavy as Cindy makes landfall somewhere near Sabine Pass. Travis says heavy storms are expected to erupt on the west side of Cindy once it moves inland, which means areas along and east of I-45 could experience flooding rains. Most can except 1-3" with a narrow swatch of 4-8" possible closer to the center. Travis also says that many west of I-45 will pick up less than an inch or even stay completely dry. The bulk of the rain will come to an end by Thursday evening.

If Cindy Comes Ashore Near Houston - Major Flooding

Some strengthening is possible, due to the slow-moving nature of the storm, should disruptive winds aloft ease for a time.

The winds are shearing the storm and causing the swath of heaviest rainfall to focus on the northeastern side of the storm.

Landfall along the upper Texas coast or over western Louisiana is possible and may occur Wednesday night or Thursday.

Regardless of the official classification and exact path, the greatest impacts from the storm will be torrential rainfall and the risk of major flooding in the Deep South and other parts of the eastern United States.

On Tuesday, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey issued a statewide state of emergency in preparation for the severe weather and flash flooding.

Initially, areas along the Interstate-10 corridor along a 600-mile-long swath from the Louisiana coast to part of the Florida west coast will experience the heaviest rainfall and greatest risk of flooding.

As of early Wednesday morning, over 3 inches of rain has fallen from southeast Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle with flooding already occurring in some areas.

Three Arrested On Texas Capital Murder Warrants

Three suspects are behind bars for capital murder in connection to the death of an Abilene man whose body was found on road in Jones County in August of 2016.

Euella Cooper, 38, Michael Pine, 37, and Olyvia Jackson, 25, were arrested Monday on Capital Murder warrants issued for the death of Ronald "Ronnie" Varner.

Varner was found deceased on CR 347 in Hawley on August 2, 2016. Court documents say he was shot at least five times.

After Varner's body was identified, detectives contacted a relative who said Varner had been house-sitting at a home on the 1500 block of Sycamore Street. The documents say this relative told police Varner called her on August 1, 2016 and stated he had been tied up and beaten but would be let go. He never came home and his relative was unable to find him.

A witness also spoke with detectives and told them she was at the Sycamore Street house a few days before the murder when she saw Varner fighting with a third party, according to the documents, which say this witness also said Pine was at her house the night before Varner was found deceased looking for ammunition.

The documents say a second witness, who claimed he was involved in the death, reported seeing Varner tied up and naked on the floor of the Sycamore house and that Cooper told him that Varner had to be killed and that if they turned him loose, everyone would get arrested for kidnapping.

Jocelyne Campos, Fort Worth, Died In Accident

A Fort Worth teenager died this week from injuries she sustained in a horse riding accident near Echo Lake Park in south Fort Worth.

Jocelyne Campos, 19, had been riding with her friends Sunday evening when her horse sprinted away unexpectedly, causing her to fall off, said Karely Vazquez, a close family friend.

“It just ran off and threw her off,” Vazquez said.

Campos suffered multiple blunt force injuries and died at 11 a.m. Monday at John Peter Smith Hospital, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

The accident happened near Atkins and McClure streets. Campos often went riding near there, where a friend had a horse stable on a pocket of land near Echo Lake. She also liked visiting her grandpa’s farm, Vazquez said.

“She liked animals,” Vazquez said. “Her grandpa had a farm and she liked to go out there and see the animals. She liked that kind of life.”

Vazquez said Campos graduated from South Hills High School last year and was working at a Metro PCS store. She had just bought a car and planned to enroll at Tarrant County College in the fall.

New Track Map Released For Tropical Storm Cindy

The third named storm of the tropical season has formed, the National Hurricane Center says. Tropical Storm Cindy is poised to bring heavy rain to the northern Gulf Coast over the next several days, though it will likely not strengthen into a hurricane.

The storm is centered about 265 miles south of Morgan City, Louisiana -- or about 355 miles southeast of Galveston, Texas -- with top sustained winds of 45 mph.

The development was hardly a surprise to forecasters. A tropical storm warning was already in place from Texas to the Louisiana-Mississippi border.

Waco Is Hot For Vacations Thanks To Chip & Joanna

They may currently be America's favorite couple. Chip and Joanna Gaines, the down-to-earth Waco pair revitalized the small Texas town known for little more than a tragic standoff in 1983.

In case you didn't know, vacations to Waco are a thing now. Currently in the middle of filming season five of HGTV's hit show Fixer Upper, the creative geniuses and their show's popularity have made it a tourist hot spot. According to the Waco Tribune-Herald, "Major attractions in Waco, led by Magnolia Market at the Silos, reported 1.9 million visits as of the end of November (2016), tripling the 660,000 reported in all of 2015."

So what is there to see in Waco? It turns out, a lot. Like the Tribune mentions, Fixer Upper enthusiasts are likely most interested in seeing Magnolia Market at the Silos. But there's also Harp Design Co., a business that is frequently featured on Fixer Upper, Baylor's campus, where both Chip and Joanna attended college. Plus the numerous "fixer upper" homes the couple has transformed.
