Famous Tree From Shawshank Redemption Movie Destroyed In Storm


MANSFIELD OHIO - Strong winds have taken out a tree made famous in the movie The Shawshank Redemption. The white oak from the 1994 film is located in Mansfield, OH. The movie placed the tree in Buxton, ME. The tree was central to plot of the film. Near the end of the movie, Morgan's Freeman's character, Red, is instructed by Tim Robbins' character, Andy, to find a box buried under the tree. It was said to be the place where Andy had proposed to his wife.
