Social Worker Sandra Chalk Killed In Hot Air Balloon Crash

TEXAS - A Texas social worker was among the 16 people who reportedly died in a hot air balloon crash near Lockhart on Saturday, her agency confirmed Wednesday. Sandra Chalk worked for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services for nearly 25 years, a spokesperson with the department said. She most recently worked as an ombudsman in the Consumer Rights and Services unit, helping people obtain services and to resolve their issues. She had previously served in many other roles in the department, including at the Austin State Supported Living Center. “It takes a special person to dedicate their life to serving people in need,” said Jon Weizenbaum, the department’s commissioner. “Sandra exhibited the heart and patience that exemplify that dedication. We extend our deepest sympathies to her friends and family.”
