UT Freshman Student Sexually Assaulted

Austin Police and the University of Texas Police Departments are investigating the sexual assault of a UT student along the Drag.

According to a safety alert sent to the entire UT Austin campus Sunday afternoon, the attack happened Saturday between 10 p.m and 12:40 a.m. on Guadalupe Street. Police say it was somewhere between 22nd and 27th Streets.

“We actually had an event we were at last night — walking this block during that time period,” said Sarah Gosch, a freshman at UT who was back on the Drag Sunday with a friend. “So the fact that it happened and we were right there is terrifying.”

Police say there was more than one attacker, and the UT student told officers they were strangers. There is not a clear description available.

“I think it’s pretty scary that that would happen so close because you cross the street and you’re on campus,” said Emery Reed, who is also a freshman.

Reed and Gosch have a rule.

“You don’t walk home alone when it gets dark out,” said Gosch.
