Man Dead, Children OK After DFW RV Chase

The RV led a pursuit westbound on I-30 through Rockwall, Dallas, Grand Prairie and into Arlington. Spike strips were laid in front of the RV in Rockwall, Dallas County and Grand Prairie, and the RV was driving slowly on its rims, causing lots of sparks.

The RV eventually became disabled across all three lanes of traffic on I-30 near Cooper Street about 4:30 a.m., Cook said.

As an officer approached the vehicle, which was heavily smoking, he saw the door open and the man let the two children go, Cook said. As the officer grabbed them, he heard a gunshot from the vehicle, which then burst into flames.

The children — one is believed to be a toddler in diapers, the other 3 years old — were taken to the hospital “just to make sure they’re OK and will be reunited with family soon.

The suspect is dead.
