Condition Updates For 3 Laredo Police Officers

Three of the officers injured in a shootout with a suspect in Laredo are now being treated at hospitals in San Antonio.

The officers were shot outside a Laredo convenience while trying to capture a murder suspect. The Laredo Police Department reported Friday evening that one of the officers was in critical condition and had been brought to a San Antonio hospital for treatment.

Saturday morning, a department spokesperson confirmed all three are now being treated at hospitals in San Antonio, one at San Antonio Military Medical Center and the other two at University Hospital. One of the officers remains in critical but stable condition. Two of the officers underwent surgery and are expected to recover. A fourth officer who suffered injuries from glass fragments was treated at a hospital in Laredo and released.

The officers have been identified as 49-year-old Officer Mario Casares Jr. , a 19-year veteran; 52-year-old Officer Roberto Cortinas, a 26-year veteran; 33-year-old Officer Agapito Perez, a 9-year veteran, and 50-year-old Officer Arturo Vela, a 25-year veteran.
