Live WWII Grenade Found In Central Texas Home

The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad was preparing to detonate a live World War II era grenade that a contractor found in a footlocker Wednesday while preparing a repair bid at a woman’s home in West.

Jimmy Meek, the owner of Advanced Foundation Repair and House Leveling, found the footlocker in a storage room at the home at 2330 Cemetery Road.

"We thought the grenade had been drilled until I looked at the bottom and it still had all the original paint and no drill marks, and still had the original pin,” Meek said.

Owner Jeanette Holecek said she purchased the house three years ago from a man who never returned to clear out some items he left behind including the footlocker.

"I had no idea what was back in the garage storage rooms,” she said.
